Our Practice
Woodward Smith Chartered Architects are a RIBA Chartered Practice based in Barnstaple, North Devon. Headed by Director and Architect Matt Steart, the team of Architects and Architectural Technologists are specialists in sustainable urban and rural building design.

The practice was established in 2006 by John Woodward and Matt Steart joined as a Partner in 2016. In 2024 John Woodward moved to a position of Consultant with Matt taking full control in the practice.

The practice specialises in the delivery of high quality Residential, Commercial, Education and Leisure projects within Northern and Mid Devon. From small scale domestic extensions to large housing developments each project is considered from a design, sustainability and budget perspective to deliver the client's aspirations.

We have established a strong working relationship over a number of years with the local planning authorities of North Devon, Torridge, Mid Devon and Exmoor National Park working closely with them on delivering various projects in the Southwest.
